As one of Asia\u2019s fastest-growing travel trade shows, ITB is a space where the global tourism industry gathers to showcase destinations, forge partnerships, and set the tone for the year ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walking through the stalls, I couldn\u2019t help but notice a trend: <strong>the overwhelming focus on outbound travel<\/strong>. Bali, Thailand, Oman, Vietnam, Norway, Kenya, Georgia, and Egypt had strong representations. Countries are aggressively courting the Indian traveler and why not? Indians are traveling abroad more than ever before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But this raises an important question: <strong>are we giving our domestic destinations the spotlight they truly deserve?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What I Observed at ITB India 2025<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bali, Vietnam &amp; Thailand<\/strong> dominated with vibrant pavilions, experiential booths, and new package launches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Oman &amp; Kenya<\/strong> positioned themselves as cultural and adventure hubs, drawing parallels with India\u2019s mountain and desert experiences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Even smaller countries like <strong>Sri Lanka<\/strong> highlighted how they bounced back quickly after crises, attracting global visitors again.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, <strong>Indian state tourism boards<\/strong> had a much quieter presence. While a few promoted Rajasthan\u2019s heritage, Madhyan Pradesh, Chatisgarh and Kerala\u2019s Ayurveda, the enthusiasm and scale paled in comparison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/ridingsolo.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_2440-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-130\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ridingsolo.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_2440-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ridingsolo.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_2440-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ridingsolo.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_2440-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ridingsolo.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_2440-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ridingsolo.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/IMG_2440-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Missed Opportunity<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>India is home to <strong>destinations that rival global icons<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>North East India<\/strong> \u2013 Cultural festivals, natural wonders, and unique homestay experiences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ladakh &amp; Kashmir<\/strong> \u2013 High-altitude landscapes, monasteries, and trekking routes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kerala<\/strong> \u2013 Backwaters, Ayurveda, and eco-tourism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Goa<\/strong> \u2013 Once India\u2019s crown jewel, but slowly losing its first-choice tag to Bali.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Andaman Islands<\/strong> \u2013 Pristine beaches and scuba diving that can compete with Maldives or Bali.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chhattisgarh &amp; Madhya Pradesh<\/strong> \u2013 Rich forests, tribal culture, and hidden heritage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And let\u2019s not forget <strong>Rajasthan<\/strong>, whose palaces and luxury hotels already match Middle Eastern opulence\u2014yet somehow, the world still looks elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Learning from Global Campaigns<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Countries like <strong>Japan<\/strong> and <strong>Thailand<\/strong> have experimented with innovative strategies such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelandtourworld.com\/news\/article\/thailand-launches-thb-700-million-free-domestic-flight-program-to-encourage-international-tourists-to-explore-hidden-gems-beyond-bangkok-phuket-and-pattaya-while-supporting-regional-economies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free flight campaigns<\/a><\/strong> to attract tourists. Imagine India adopting something similar\u2014free domestic flights for select foreign tourists or heavy discounts during off-season. Natural crises like <strong>floods and landslides<\/strong> in mountain states make headlines globally. Negative stories spread fast, while positive efforts often go unnoticed.
